Nathalie Ly on why curiosity drives you forward
In this series, we sit down with some of our colleagues at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) to talk about how they came to work at our exchange, what life at LuxSE is like for them and what they appreciate the most about their jobs.
In this instalment of our 'Life at LuxSE' series, we meet Nathalie Ly, Senior Admission & Corporate Actions Officer in LuxSE’s Listing & Regulatory Affairs department.
A short jump into life in Luxembourg
Having studied in France, Luxembourg was by no means an unfamiliar setting for Nathalie. During her studies, Nathalie completed traineeships in various different areas of the Grand Duchy’s bustling financial centre – mostly within the listing agent business. So, when it came time to enter the workforce full-time, she was eager to flesh out what she had already learned and so her story at LuxSE began!
From the get-go Nathalie got a good feeling about the job and the company during her interview with the man who would turn out to be her manager – Daniel Majek, our Head of Admissions & Corporate Actions within the larger Listing & Regulatory Affairs department.
Two years later, Nathalie is happy to report that her first impressions about the company turned out to be true.
“The horizontal management and communication style that we have here is something I immediately appreciated and still appreciate to this day.”
A constant flow of communication
Once it came time to find her desk and get down to work, it was a matter of learning as she went, with lots of training organised to help her get settled in – trainings that Daniel Majek made sure to monitor and contribute to in order to make sure that Nathalie started on the best possible footing.
Because of Nathalie’s line of work, she’s always in contact with other teams at LuxSE – whether that’s to discuss potential new displays on the LGX platform with the Sustainable Finance team, checking with Compliance and Legal in the lead up to welcoming a new issuer or security to LuxSE, or with the Markets and Surveillance Team for any trading matters.
The constant stream of communication that comes with helping to bring a new security to the market means that there’s never a dull moment for Nathalie.
Keeping an ear to the ground
With around 12,000+ securities making their way onto one of LuxSE’s internationally recognised markets each year, Nathalie and her teammates are kept busy every day. Her job revolves around analysing, preparing and following the admission request file in detail all the way up to the official listing date and following any corporate events that may impact the lifecycle of a security.
Staying well-informed of developments both inside and outside LuxSE is also an important aspect of Nathalie’s role.
“Keeping an eye on the news and following major corporate events are key parts of my job. No two admission cases are the same and we need to make sure that we always have a view of the bigger picture. Our end goal is to protect the investor while also advising our issuers and clients properly.”
According to our Senior Admission & Corporate Actions Officer, tasks such as participating in new listing projects that LuxSE has in the pipeline and providing training to new colleagues bring her new responsibilities and lots of variety to her typical workday.
Stay curious and reap the rewards
When it comes to what makes life at LuxSE special for Nathalie, it’s all about the environment that meets you when you walk through the door. The diversity of nationalities, a welcoming team, friendly and familiar faces – at the end of the day, Nathalie believes that it’s all about the people that she is surrounded by.
For anyone that’s considering taking the leap into life at LuxSE, Nathalie has some stellar advice:
